The Turkey Ministry of Economic has recently published a communication on their official gazette "Notice of controlling of certain consumer goods imports" (Product Safety and Inspection: 2012/30). This notice aims to control the phthalate content of all imported footwear, and will entry into force from November 5, 2012.
Importers should have a test report from an accredited third party testing laboratory, showing that the imported product meets the rules on phthalates in footwear. The current limit for the restricted phthalates (DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, DnOP and DEHP) in footwear products is 0.1% by weight. The product types listed below could be randomly audited and tested for the presence of Phthalates.
- Footwear with rubber surface - Footwear with surface made of plastic material - Shoes in which surface of shoes is fastened to the sole by passing belts or thin stripes on the surface of shoes through the holes on the sole - Footwear having more than 3 cm heel height with the sole - Slipper and other shoes worn at home - Footwear having insole length less than 24 cm - Footwear that can’t be determined to belong to men or women - Footwear for men, women, children and babies - Sneakers, tennis shoes, basketball shoes, gymnastic shoes, training shoes and so on
