About VOC
utomotive interior part Volatile Organic Compounds, referred to as "VOC" is the major reason affecting vehicle interior air quality. VOC including alkanes, alkenes, aromatics, aldehydes or ketones and other substances, has a special pungent smell, and some have been classified as carcinogens, such as vinyl chloride, benzene, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, some of VOC can damage the ozone layer, such as chlorofluorocarbons and hydrochlorofluorocarbons.
If the VOC concentration is too high, it easily lead to acute poisoning, causing headache, dizziness, cough, nausea, vomiting; liver toxicity may appear, and even coma, and some may be life-threatening. VOC impact on children's health: The foreign medical studies have shown that pregnant women living in the VOC environment have a higher probability of fetal malformation than normal, and there may affect future intellectual development of children.
National status
Government agencies around the world are now developing a variety of separate policy to limit vehicle's air quality. In Europe and the United States, all car manufacturers are based on their customers to determine their own testing methods, it varies between companies. However, these car manufacturers have reached a consensus on reducing and controlling volatile organic compounds.
Other countries and organizations are also active in research and develop of testing methods and standards related to VOC test. Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association drew up "car VOC testing method" and "Methods to reduce vehicle interior VOC"; in 2007, China introduced the industry standard HJ / T 400-2003, provides sampling method and testing method of aldehydes and ketones and VOC in cars; International Standards Organization (ISO) has finished drafting of vehicle VOC testing method, now in public consultation process; South Korea in late 2007 finished drafting VOC control method, which is similar to that of China State Environmental Protection Administration. With the introduction of these standards, OEMs will strengthen the control of air quality control inside the vehicle.
