The Governor of Maryland has signed into law a bill to restrict the use of DecaBDE as flame retardant in 2010 after the ban on PentaBDE and OctaBDE. However, this requirement does not apply to original equipment manufacturer replacement service parts or other products manufactured before January 1st, 2011, if the part or products were manufactured in compliance with applicable federal, states and local laws.
The Challenge:
Effective from December 31st, 2010, a person may not manufacture, lease, sell or distribute for sale or lease in Maryland State any of the following products that contain DecaBDE:
• Mattresses; • Upholster furniture designed for residential use; • Electronic or electrical equipment.

Apart from Maryland, the State of Maine has approved law to restrict DecaBDE content in following products on January 1, 2008:
• Mattress or mattress pad; or • Upholstered furniture intended for indoor use in a home or other residential occupancy.
Simultaneously, Maine has also restricted the limits of PentaBDE and OctaBDE to 0.1%.Also, effective from January 1, 2010, television or computer that has a plastic housing contains DecaBDE is not allowed in Maine.(RTS TESTING EXPRESS) |
